Scientist – Protein Biochemistry
Proteos, a wholly owned subsidiary of NanoImaging Services, Inc. (NIS), is a global leader in supporting pharma and biotech discovery and development programs. We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join our Protein Expression and Purification team in Kalamazoo, MI.
This role focuses on expression, purification, and characterization of challenging proteins, including membrane proteins, in support of client-driven therapeutic discovery programs.
Key Responsibilities
• Purify proteins using various chromatographic techniques including affinity, ion exchange, and size exclusion chromatography
• Optimize solubilization and stabilization of membrane proteins using detergents and related systems
• Perform protein quality assessment via SDS-PAGE, western blotting, HPLC-SEC, mass spectrometry, and protein quantitation
• Conduct biophysical characterization and binding studies using SPR, BLI, and/or MST
• Prepare buffers, media, and reagents
• Analyze, document, and report data in technical reports
• Maintain accurate experimental records
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support client programs
Qualifications
• PhD with 3+ years relevant experience, or BS/MS with 7+ years
• Strong experience in recombinant protein expression and purification, including membrane proteins
• Hands-on experience with E. coli, insect, and/or mammalian expression systems
• Proficiency with chromatography-based purification methods
• Experience with SPR, BLI, MST, or related biophysical techniques
• Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment

In addition to the above the following are required for working in the Lab:
• Must be able to perform work for extended times at a lab bench or in a biosafety cabinet.
• Must be available to work extended days and weekends as needed
• The person in this position needs mobility to move around lab and dock area
• The person in this position must be able to frequently exchange accurate information with peers, supervisor, and external clients.
• Frequently moves equipment/buckets that weight up to 50 pounds
• Constantly exposed to Biosafety Level 2 (BSL-2)
